Fitness Overview

Health and fitness can be scary for beginners. A lot of people are self-concious about their appearance while at the gym or fear they will look "dumb" for not how to use the exercise equipment. However, working out at the gym on a regular basis can be empowering and lead to more self-confidence by doing something to better yourself.

What Is Fitness?

Fitness encompasses the health and well-being of a person. Physical fitness is achieved through good nutrition and regular exercise. Working out regularly increase muscle strength and endurance, as well as improve cardiovascular health. Consistent exercise can help a person live a more energetic and productive life.

Helpful Tips For Beginners

- Don't over do it. Do not push yourself beyond your limits too soon. Working out is about going at your pace and enjoying what you are doing instead of trying to do what the person next you is doing.

- Don't compare yourself to others. Comparing yourself to others can quickly lead to self-doubt and other negative feelings. Often times, this will leave you more frustrated and might even sabotage your progress.

- Join a class! Many gyms offer classes for Yoga, Pilates, Pi-Yo (Yoga + Pilates), Orange Theory, and more!

Common Mistakes For Beginners

- Having too big of a goal. Having too large of a goal can be daunting. Try breaking down a goal into several smaller and more achievable goals. Rather than strive to lose 100 pounds, a person could measure their success in increments of 10 pounds. Taking this approach can help a person be more successful.

- Not having a plan. Write down your short-term and long-term goals. Visualizing what you want will increase the chance of achieving your goals.

- Not warming up. Warming up elevates your temperature and heartrate. It also allows for a more productive workout and minimizes the chance of injury.

Cardio Or Weight Training?

The answer is both. Cardio is better for increasing indurance and decreasing body fat, while weight training is better for building muscle. However, the best workouts are a combination of both.
